Shelfari & Rollyo
By katie_crook - Posted on December 13th, 2007
I have been a member of Shelfari for a few months--I think it is great to be able to let others know what you are reading and also get ideas for new books to read from those who share the same interests as me. I have even added my shelf to my Facebook profile so that it can reach my friends who are not members of Shelfari!
Facebook wins...in my book.

I joined MySpace about 2 years ago, and have enjoyed the fact that it has kept me in touch with old friends that live elsewhere and let's me chat with my fiends here in a different format with personal messages and sharing pictures. I just joined Facebook last Thursday night in class and have been hooked, for lack of a better word. It has allowed me to contact even more friends from high school and college than I have found in MySpace, which is great because I really enjoy keeping in touch with people and hearing their stories.

An article from today's New York Times, In Korea, a Boot Camp Cure for Web Obsession, isabout children (and even adults) in Korea sent to bootcamp to overcome their addiction to cyberspace. According to the article, South Korea is the most wired nation on earth--90% of homes there connect to the cheap high-speed connections available.

This is an interesting article from The New York Times which asserts that maybe we are all better off by just ignoring technology altogether. But, you have to wonder, are we really capable of this? It is always nice to escape from the "realities" of reality every now and then, but in the end you are going to have to make the decision to face your the 1000+ rss feeds head on or just click "read all" and, simply, be done with it. The choice is yours!

del.icio.us

I am really enjoying using del.icio.us to bookmark as I browse the internet. For me, it is a lot more accessible and easier to organize than the "favorites" on a standard browser. And it is also great that it can be accessed from anywhere and not just through my home computer. With regard to the article I just posted about tagging, I find myself getting anxious with too many tags, so I like to try to keep this to a minimum and focus on just a few simple words to summarize. I am having a hard time searching for our class tag and coming up with any results.

This is a really great article on the problems associated with tagging. While it is suppossed to make things easier to find and more organized in cyberspace, it is increasingly becoming less so due to vagueness of terms, lack of standardization of terms and blog author's getting too tag happy.
