Second Life

Tagged:  •

I had never heard of second life before doing it in class.  It was a great experience exploring all those places.  It was also great making friends, talking with others, getting all dressed up and best of all being able to fly.  I think I will  really be able to fly in a real second life.  Looking forward to that.

It was interesting that one was able to place whatever one wanted in the search engine.  I did not find it very user friendly and is still struggling with it .

Library Thing

Tagged:

For my library thing account I was able to take a few books from my bookshelf to create my list.  It was interesting to see that so many others have read the same books and the variety of comments on a particular book.  I could have gone on and on but realized there was much more to be done and I was actually missing it.

Social Network

Tagged:

It was really interesting to see the profile of some members of the class on facebook.  The information is well organized, informative and interesting.  I can see why it is referred to as a social network, it allows one to share a commom space with friends and relatives.

Media Sharing

I do not have a digital camera. Who doesn't in this age of technological advancement.  I wanted to use my own pictures so I scanned some pictures of my own and was finally able to share them with the class.  I was also able to go to Youtube and put some videos in an account.  I am still working on perfecting that.  Flickr, Youtube, great.

Here is a video which explains tagging and folksonomies beautifully.  As the saying goes a little child shall lead them.

Bookmarking

Using del.icio.us was interesting.I however had a few mishaps along the way.  I was able to save the bookmarks without difficulty.  I was also able to see what other people have bookmarked.  I think this is a useful way of finding information on various topics.  I like how the tags allow you to access the bookmarks from any computer.  It is also good that tags can be used to organize and remember your bookmarks, which seem to be more flexible than folders.  I wanted to bundle my tags but too much thought had to go into it so I ended up putting them in clouds.

Google Docs

This is a wonderful application.  I like its versatility.  One is able to edit spreadsheets, as well as invite others by email to edit, add or view a document or spreadsheet. As a matter of fact one does not even have to communicating with others via email.  So may different applications can be accessed under this one umbrella.  I am going to try them all especially Powerpoint which is always a challenging for me.  Let's see if here it will be more user friendly for me.

My Yahoo

Tagged:

For my Start Page I chose My Yahoo out of curiosity.  I have always seen it and wondered about it so this was a good opportunity to explore.  I found myself searching endlessly all over the web for RSS feeds and had no idea where to find favorites.  I did't realize then that it was so user friendly with the RSS feeds and many favorites all in one place.  There was really no need to have been visiting several websites to get the content required.
