Second Life & General Thoughts

I have never been an avid video game player, or have played for five minutes and given up. I have to admit that I do feel the same way toward Second Life [I know, you probably thought I was going to move in a positive direction there ;o)]. I don't know what it is, but I would just rather be thinking about and taking care of real world concerns than choosing an outfit  or hairstyle for my avatar. I have limited patience for figuring things like this out, and after it took me 15 minutes to figure out how to get my free outfit off of the virtual wall I could no longer pretend that I was actually enjoying myself. Don't get me wrong, I am glad to finally have an idea of what Second Life is which I have been hearing of since beginning school, and I can see where some people would be hooked by all that it can offer, but it is just not for me.

Other than my qualms with Second Life, I have enjoyed this class so much. As I have mentioned in previous posts, I have been introduced to technologies that I have either been too intimidated to try out on my own or was simply unaware of beforehand. Learning about these tools and the way they are used in libraries has left an impression on me in the way that they can facilitate growth of activity among patrons, and speed and efficiency of work among colleagues.  I know that I will refer back to our class site for future projects and school work and look forward to keeping in touch with everyone via some of these technologies. Thanks to Ellyssa for such an awesome class and for allowing it to be such an interactive and collaborative experience--there really is no better way to learn and experiece all that web 2.0 technologies have to offer!
