Library Thing

Tagged:  •    •

I signed up for library thing in the beggining of the semester and spent a whole weekend cataloguing all of my books and I even scanned in some of my own book covers. I love looking at profiles of people who share my books to get ideas on what to read next. Even though I was familiar with library thing there are some features I didn't even notice until last weeks class.

Library Thing and Rollyo

Tagged:  •    •    •

I set up Library Thing and Rollyo and love both of them.  I've got my books all over the place at home, and many of my favorite authors (Jean-Claude Izzo, for example) are hard to locate in bookstores. It's great for me to keep track of everything, and I'm interested to know who else likes some of the authors I read. This is going to be fun.

Rollyo is pretty cool, too. I set up all of my job-hunting sites! Maybe now I won't forget where I bookmarked everything.

Information Monopoly

As most people in the information science world, I am watching the
debut of Amazon's Kindle with great interest. And I can already hear
from sects of my friends saying "told you libraries were no longer
necessary" and I can hear the other side saying "it will never replace
my book. I want to turn pages and I need the tangible and tactile
aspects of the book: the feel and smell." To quote Giles "Books smell." I am still kind of on the
fence. This thing is capable of some amazing, alluring things:

Googles big plan to scan

Tagged:  •    •

I recently read a great article in the NYtimes. It is related to online office applications but only in a really remote way. I am using googledocs as my online office application, which is powered by google. I realized google is so huge, its taking over the world!
