I found Clay Shirky's presentation from last month interesting and thought provoking. It's 15 minutes and he covers a lot of ground, but it made me bend my thinking in terms of social media usage and outreach. Reach out or have others reach in? How would a library do this? I'm still thinking about it . . . If anyone has posted this already, mea culpa - somehow I missed it.

After seeing your comment about Clay's presentation I watched it at the link you provided. I agree, his talk was very interesting and thought provoking. I knew we were experiencing profound changes in our media and in the way we interact with each other. I am starting to feel the impact of today's social tools we are learning to use. They are leveling the playing field for all of us. For example, text messaging, emails, chat, publishing tools, and etc. make it possible for all of us to communicate with one another, regardless of place, intellect, physical ability, and etc. What is next for us?
Thanks for sharing this video!
My sister-in-law posted her status on facebook as concerned for her profession (journalism). She was visiting with a group of teens who wanted to go into journalism and not one of them read the paper in print or online. Which brought me back to this video . . . I think by leveling the playing field we are also alterning the way news is consumed. In some cases, this may be a good thing -- tweets out of Iran for example, but in others perhaps not. Social media is definitely changing our world and us with it.
This is great Steph, thanks for linking to this!
