Widgets in my library

“What are some ways that you as a librarian/info pro will make use of widgets?”

1. In my library’s literacy program we can create a start page: web portal that will introduce interesting, important, and fun things that are available on the Internet. A few widgets that come to mind for this are: weather channels, news, and social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. And since it is a literacy program we can include widgets of literacy blogs or “Blidgets”.

2. In the library, widgets can be used on the library calendar (Amy also touched on this idea in her post). Widgets with photos from Flickr would be a nice way to show a preview of an event to create interest. Another widget for a library calendar could be of a PSA like this one we used at BPL for The Big Read in 2007: The Big READ Celebrates Zora Neale Hurston (scroll down to the bottom of the page to see video)

3. Widgets can also be included in the library’s e-newsletter by using the photo widgets to share photos of meetings, successful events, and cool things that have been going on in the library.
