California Dreamin' Wiki

Here are two wikis I use today:

  • A Library Association Board Wiki: A password protected PBWiki resource where the library association's (where I am a webmaster) board members keep manuals and meeting minutes. PBWiki was easy enough for a board member with very minimal web expertise to set up.
  • A Journal Wiki: A personal MediaWiki resource where I use to keep school and library related notes. It was a great opportunity to learn to set up MediaWiki on my server and I found it invaluable to store information that otherwise would have been inside a paper notebook or my filing cabinet.

For this week's exercise, I used WetPrint to create California Dreamin'  http://arosis.wetpaint.com/

I found WetPrint easy to use. The main difference between PBWiki and Wetpaint is its editing interface and templates. Wetpaint has far more templates than PBWiki but if you like simplicity, you'll like PBWiki.

Your wiki has some great content.  I like how you incorporated the RSS feeds, and I especially like your FAQs! I think there is a lot on the web that has been created as a test or for a project and then is left alone.  When I come across stuff like that, I always wonder what's up.  I'm glad you gave readers the heads up of why it was created.

In her book, Ellyssa's best practices for each social media tool really helps shape how to make this tool more useful. If it wasn't for them, I would not have thought to add a FAQ! Your comment validates her suggestions.

Hi Amy--Snappy banner. You turned an unappealing Wetpaint template into something very appealing to the eye.

Truth to be told, this was the most fun part. :-) I used images from the Flickr's Creative Commons -licensed content.
