Libraries on social networks

Tagged:  •    •

I have mixed feelings about libraries using social networks. I suppose it simplifies for me depending on if there is time for a staff member to be dedicated to keeping the information on the social networks up to date and relevant. If there is staff enough to make that happen, then adding social networking to a library's repetoire is a great thing. If not, then it might not be the best choice.

Do you think libraries should be on Facebook & other social networks - why or why not?

I've been on Facebook for quite a while.  Regarding MySpace, mine is the same ol' story.  I haven't been on it in ages, so I won't even share it here.  Feel free to look me up in the 'book.  I use my account for both personal and professional purposes.

Facebook rather than MySpace or LinkedIn (for now)

I've had a FB profile since February when I was pursuaded to create one.  I have to say, I do like it better than Myspace in that is loads a lot faster, as there aren't loads of skin choices to make your profile or wall "pretty". Now that I've read how not to be a jerk on FB, I will go back to sending personal messages to everyone I friend!  I used to do that, then slacked off.  No more slackin'!

I use MySpace very little anymore (basically just to keep up with those few hold-outs who refuse to move over to Facebook), but here are both my profiles:

For the few of you who've posted your facebook profiles already, I sought you out & requested your friendship.

Hi Everyone -

Please check out my Facebook & MySpace pages.

I don't really use MySpace that much anymore, but I am active on Facebook....

I'm doing some work for a branding meeting I am attending next week and came across this on Seth Godin's blog.  It's pretty darn funny, a tad scarey, and a good wake up call to all.

Enjoy!
