Library Portals

Tagged:  •    •    •

What do you think of the idea of libraries creating public start page portals?

My library has a rather busy and difficult to navigate home page and being a large county system there are many branches and a lot of information (which can be overwhelming) on the site.  Rather than wading through all of this information to find what is pertinent to one particular branch or area, a library portal just may offer a more streamlined approach.

Using Netvibes in Libraries

Tagged:  •    •

An article released yesterday from the Netvibes Blog features the use of Netvibes public pages as virtual resource centers. This article lists a number of libraries--public, school and academic libraries--which are using Netvibes as custom virtual resource and entertainment centers to meet their patrons' information needs. Following are some of the specific ways libraries featured in this article are using their Netvibes web portal.

Netvibes and Google Reader

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

I have set up accounts both in netvibes and igoogle as well as google reader and bloglines.

At this point I prefer igoogle and indecisive about the readers. Here are my netvibes and google reader accounts.

Start Pages: iGoogle vs. Netvibes

Tagged:  •

I really like my iGoogle page but I decided to try Netvibes for this assignment. There are somethings that I like better than iGoogle, like my LibVibe feed allows me to actually listen to the podcasts on the page rather than loading another page. It's quite nice. I also was able
to make an awesome banner that I really really like. So here it is.
Netvibes is not as user friendly as iGoogle in my opinion, maybe just because I'm used to using it. I found Netvibes a bit difficult, I kept
getting widgets that would load and then say they were incompatible.
