igoogle

I chose to use iGoogle for my start page. I was already using it and I really like the customizable interface. It is so easy to edit and move things around, and I like being able to see my mail and my news feed from my home page.

Considering the question, "What do you think of the idea of libraries creating public start page portals?," I think it's a fabulous idea! In fact, I created a fake start page for the Berkeley Public Library, where I volunteer. Here it is:

The start page is nowhere near complete, and doesn't look as nice as Dublin's (I wasn't sure how to insert buttons or images), but it's a start.

In what ways do you think that you as a librarian or information worker can benefit from RSS technology

To me the most obvious benefit is the ability to keep
abreast of what is being written and discussed in your field, being able to
pick out topics and follow discussions about them as well as contributing with

Netvibes and Google Reader

I have set up accounts both in netvibes and igoogle as well as google reader and bloglines.

At this point I prefer igoogle and indecisive about the readers. Here are my netvibes and google reader accounts.

igoogle for me

I have been using igoogle as my start page for quite a while and really like it.  Feeling I should try something new, I gave netvibes a try and became quite frustrated.  I kept getting their preset widgets and had trouble deleting them.  I didn't like the colors on the set up pages and missed the ease of moving things around on igoogle.  So I linked my Bloglines to igoogle and am pleased to have everything right there that I use a lot.  I don't use the tabbed pages much, but am glad to have various resources there.

Hello all!

After much struggle and toil, I now have a start up page. I used netvibes.com and subscribed to several library and news related RSS feeds. Check it out. Leave feedback if the site is an eye sore.
