Fun, Ad Free Widgets by A Bowman

I found her blog while looking for a good widget for my page on the ning.  They are quite cute and interactive, but are not slow to load.  I especially like the "feed the fish" widget.

Using Widgets in the Library

There are numerous ways to make use of widgets on the library webpage.  Particularly, I would like to eventually embed a MeeboMe Widget on my library's webpage (which I've observed in many libraries' websites).  Here is a list of libraries currently using MeeboMe.  This is how it looksMeebo is an instant messaging service th

RSS Publication for Information Professionals

It is of no dispute that libraries and other information organizations have benefitted greatly from RSS and its ability to aggregate user-specified information, but perhaps the real potential for RSS within information organizations lies in the ability to actually republish this specified content.  It is one thing for an information professional to be able to search for information for their own use, something that is undeniably inherent to the profession; it is entirely different to be able to simply repackage retrieved information and make it easily accessible to a group of end users.

"In what ways do you think that libraries/info organizations could make use of widgets?"

Library websites: some of them are dynamic, interesting, inviting, even elegant. But mostly they suck.

Most of the ones I've run across are static, out-of-date, haphazardly put together, hard on the eyes, poorly maintained. They do not inspire the user to seek information through them. In fact, they often inspire the user to leave the site immediately and seek out someone else's site.

Widgets - personal, community, and research

I was really blown away by all the potential uses for widgets by the library.  It seems like they are a great resource both to personalize library service for patrons and to create really useful content.
