Creating an account in Wikipedia is straightforward with plenty of advice and cautions on selecting a user name, in other words, take heed.

An elementary wiki

I used PBWorks to create a wiki because I wasn't so hot on Wetpaint's Google or banner ads. For the past several months I've been promising to re-do the website for my son's elementary school and thought it might be interesting to see how it would work as a wiki that all the PTA members could edit.

Here's the wiki: http://emersonelementary.pbworks.com/FrontPage.

"What types of wiki implementations do you think would be particularly effective for your/a library or organization?"

Everything we've looked at so far in this class has had a cool factor, but wikis are the first to make me go "OMG, we HAVE to do this."

I took a look at the following 3 wikis from a user/reader perspective: Wikitravel (MediaWiki), The Elemenstor Saga Wiki (PBWiki), and Tudors Wiki (Wetpaint).

My Wiki work area

Tagged:  •    •

I created a wiki work area with Google Pages for various projects during my studies at SJSU.  Though others can be enabled to change or edit the content, the work area has been great for me, as it has allowed me to work on projects from different computers and locations.  For the last 5 years I was working in public schools in Japan and never had my own computer while at work.  In fact, every week I was at a different school.  Being able to jump on any computer (when I had some down time) and work on papers or projects for SLIS was a real plus.

I had gardening content.  Those of you who have seen my libguide at mylibrary.us may recognize some of it.  Here's the link, but I'm not totally sure if that's going to work. I don't have everyone's email to "invite" them, so let me know if this doesn't work and I'll go to plan b.  Make that c (repost)

Cheers,

Steph
